Torabhaig Unveils “Sound of Sleat” – A New Chapter in Its Legacy Series

Whisky lovers, take note – the windswept Isle of Skye has birthed a new dram. Torabhaig, the island’s celebrated single malt distillery, has just launched Sound of Sleat, the fourth release in its ambitious Legacy Series.

A Tribute to the Sleat Peninsula

Named after the narrow sea strait that laps the shores of the Sleat Peninsula—home to the Torabhaig distillery—Sound of Sleat captures the maritime soul and rugged charm of this corner of Skye. Known as the “Garden of Skye,” the Sleat Peninsula is a wild, fertile, and evocative landscape that continues to inspire Torabhaig’s whisky-making philosophy.

This latest release reflects the brand’s commitment to honouring its roots, not just through the whisky itself but also in the packaging. The label features artwork by local artist Ellis O’Connor, whose dynamic brushwork brings the movement and mood of Skye’s natural world to life.

The Whisky: A Dance of Smoke, Spice, and Sea

Sound of Sleat is a single malt matured entirely in American oak, using both new oak casks and ex-bourbon barrels (Quercus Alba). The whisky ebbs and flows with coastal character, with flavours of vibrant citrus, warming spice, sea spray saltiness, and a gentle, smoky richness reminiscent of a bonfire on a breezy beach.

Whisky maker Neil MacLeod Mathieson describes the dram as “a journey in itself,” with “plenty of oak spice, citrus and maritime saltiness alongside a newfound waxiness we’ve discovered as our spirit continues to mature.”

This expression exemplifies the distillery’s philosophy of “smoke with taste”—a refined, well-tempered peat that’s distinctly Torabhaig.

Continuing the Journey to a 10-Year-Old Signature

Sound of Sleat marks another milestone in the Legacy Series, which began with Torabhaig 2017 and has since included Allt Gleann, Allt Gleann Batch Strength, and Cnoc Na Mòine. Each release is a step toward the distillery’s goal of a 10-year-old signature whisky, charting the evolution of its house style and experimental maturation techniques along the way.

For collectors and aficionados, Sound of Sleat is the fifth addition to this growing series—a must-have for those following Torabhaig’s journey from fledgling distillery to peat-forward powerhouse.

Where to Find It

Torabhaig Sound of Sleat will soon be available on the Torabhaig website with a recommended retail price of £57. It’s more than just a bottle of whisky—it’s a sensory snapshot of Skye’s southern coast, crafted with care and steeped in story.
