Auchenbowie House to Welcome New Scotch Whisky Distillery
Plans to transform a long-forgotten walled garden into a state-of-the-art Scotch whisky distillery have received the green light. Stirling Council has granted planning permission to Organic Architects to develop the distillery on the grounds of the historic Auchenbowie House, near Bannockburn.

Breathing Life Into a Neglected Landmark
The distillery will be constructed within a neglected walled garden on the grounds of A-listed Auchenbowie House, a site rich in history and character. Once overgrown and unused for decades, the space will soon be reimagined as a modern facility rooted in tradition.
Bari Reid, director at Organic Architects – a firm renowned for its sustainable distillery designs – shared the significance of the approval:
“Receiving approval for this project is an important milestone and we’re excited to begin the work of bringing the Auchenbowie walled garden back into use.
“For decades, this area has stood empty and overgrown – but it has immense potential.
“Our design celebrates the character of the site and the rich history of the estate, while also delivering something new and relevant for today.”

A Design Inspired by Heritage and Sustainability
The architectural vision for Auchenbowie Distillery blends sustainability, heritage, and innovation. The distillery buildings will be nestled within the garden walls, designed to echo elegant Victorian greenhouses. At the centre of the design is a striking glasshouse that overlooks a water garden, which will also serve a practical purpose as part of the cooling system used during distillation.
Reid adds:
“It’s a project where sustainability, heritage and craftsmanship come together – and we can’t wait to see it take shape.”

Timeline and Economic Impact
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with distillation operations expected to commence in 2027. This multi-million-pound investment is projected to create 15 direct jobs, with additional opportunities anticipated in agriculture, logistics, and the hospitality sector as the project boosts the local economy.
