Celebrating 100 Years of Gleneagles Hotel with Glenfiddich

One of Scotland’s most iconic luxury hotels, Gleneagles, has announced an extraordinary partnership to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Teaming up with Glenfiddich, the world’s most awarded single malt Scotch whisky maker, the hotel is releasing an exclusive, limited-edition whisky in honour of its centenary. This collaboration between two of Scotland’s most revered institutions promises a unique blend of history, craftsmanship, and taste.

A Century of Luxury at Gleneagles

Since opening its doors in 1924, Gleneagles has established itself as a premier destination for luxury, leisure, and fine Scottish hospitality.

To mark its 100th anniversary, the hotel has partnered with Glenfiddich to create a one-of-a-kind whisky — the Gleneagles x Glenfiddich Centenary Reserve, aged for 49 years. This ultra-exclusive whisky will be available in very limited quantities, with only three bottles released each year for £35,000 per bottle.

Limited Availability with a Unique Touch

While the steep price tag adds to the exclusivity, the Centenary Reserve will not simply be sold to the highest bidder or the first customer in line. Instead, whisky enthusiasts can request to purchase a bottle through The Still Room at Gleneagles, making the acquisition process as bespoke as the whisky itself.

Crafting the Ultimate Anniversary Whisky

Daniel Baernreuther, General Manager at Gleneagles, expressed his pride in the collaboration:

“Over the past couple of years, we’ve been working behind the scenes with the Glenfiddich team, with the joint aim of crafting the ultimate anniversary single malt. I’m delighted that we can finally share the finished product with the world. This is a bottle of whisky unlike any other and I couldn’t think of a better dram to celebrate 100 years of Gleneagles.”

The limited-edition whisky is a reflection of Glenfiddich’s commitment to innovation. It has been matured for 49 years in a single Refill Sherry Butt, which has imbued the whisky with rich flavours.

Tasting notes include vanilla fudge, creamy toffee, and oak, with hints of beeswax and set honey. The use of antique oak further enhances the complexity of the whisky, offering a rich, luxurious finish that mirrors Gleneagles’ century of elegance.

A Shared History of Excellence and Innovation

The partnership between Gleneagles and Glenfiddich is a fitting tribute to both brands’ intertwined legacies, dating back to a time when the golden era of railway travel transformed Scottish hospitality. As train routes expanded into rural Scotland, luxury hotels like Gleneagles found new opportunities to cater to affluent travellers. The whisky industry, too, benefited from the railway expansion, enabling distilleries like Glenfiddich to transport their coveted Scotch beyond Scotland’s borders.

Both Gleneagles and Glenfiddich were born from a vision of excellence. The Gleneagles Hotel was inspired by the General Manager of the Caledonian Railway Company, Donald Matheson, who saw the opportunity for a grand hotel connected to the railway. The Perthshire train station, originally built in 1856 and renamed Gleneagles in 1912, made travel between London and the hotel seamless. Likewise, the railway played a significant role in the growth of Speyside distilleries, which could now share their whisky with the world.

A Luxurious Design for a Luxurious Whisky

The Gleneagles x Glenfiddich Centenary Reserve is more than just a whisky — it’s a piece of art. Each bottle comes in a stunning, hand-crafted display case designed by Glasgow-based artist John Galvin.

The art-deco interiors of Gleneagles and the vintage elegance of early 20th-century train carriages inspire the case. Featuring polished burr walnut and bespoke stained glass, the cabinet beautifully echoes the grandeur of both the hotel and the whisky.

The bottle itself is a showpiece, designed to reflect the spirit of the golden age of railway travel, luxury, and craftsmanship.

From the intricate details of the packaging to the exceptional whisky it holds, the Centenary Reserve is a fitting symbol of two Scottish icons celebrating 100 years of excellence.

The Perfect Blend of Tradition and Innovation

Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich’s Master Blender, emphasised the importance of selecting a whisky that captures the essence of Glenfiddich’s legacy:

“For this special release, we wanted to select a whisky embodying the quintessential Glenfiddich character: traditionally smooth and rich in fruity and ester sweetness, drawn from the 49 years spent cocooned in the walls of a Refill Sherry Butt. Collaborating with the team at Gleneagles, we’ve crafted a truly exceptional whisky that commemorates their celebration and encapsulates the timeless essence and railway heritage of Glenfiddich.”
